Fukushima Three Years Later:
Staying Behind, Moving Forward
I helped organize this conference to commemorate the March 11, 2011 tsunami that ravaged northern Japan, the area I lived and taught in from 2009 to 2011. As a survivor of the natural and subsequent nuclear disasters that devastated the area, this conference held special significance to me.
This conference featured a range or speakers to help give a perspective on the current situation in Fukushima, Japan.

New York Taiko Aiko Kai
In February of 2014 I joined the New York Taiko Aiko Kai which is a Japanese drumming group composed of Teachers College and Columbia University students, alumni, and family members. This group practices once a week and does performances around New York State, as well as in Japan. It has been a pleasure to be able to practice drumming in New York and make a new taiko family. We have performed at places such as Columbia University, Randall Island, Citi Field, the New York Marathon as well as Japan.
