Moral Education Class

During my time as an English teacher co-teaching with Japanese teachers of English, I had a special opportunity to teach a "Moral Education" (道徳)class about leadership to all three grades at one of my junior high schools. This type of class does not exist in the USA, but it is best described as a class where students are taught about community responsibility, health, and other principles. Co-teaching with the social studies teacher, we taught a class about "leadership values." The main objective of the class was to introduce different types of leadership and show the students that different situations calling for different styles of leadership. I also wanted students to begin to think about what kind of leaders they were. To have students discover their leadership styles, they were presented with a collaborative task where students needed to cross a "toxic river" where only one student could cross once and other students had to figure out how to move the entire group across. The task was designed to have students realize that it takes listening, negotiation, and cooperation to accomplish the task. The class was taught entirely in Japanese.
Below is the explanation of the class and lesson plan. Though it is in Japanese, I can discuss it more in English if asked.
