Hunter College Japanese 102, three sections New York, New York In the Spring of 2015, I started working as an adjunct professor at Hunter College' Japanese Division teaching Japanese 102. After the first semester, I continued working at Hunter as an adjunct lecturer teaching Japanese 101 and 102 until the end of Spring 2017. This program uses the book Genki, and each section has approximately 25 students, which means I taught more than 75 students each semester. Teaching Japanese was challenging, but also extremely rewarding as it forces me to examine my own Japanese skills as well as to help develop skills in my students. As a non-native speaker, I used my own experience learning the language to point out potentially difficult areas in the language (pronunciation, grammar) and give them tips as to how I handled it. In addition to teaching, I helped the program by helping to create 2 new minors for the Japanese Program, do live translation for events, and also introduce lecturers to do special events at Hunter (such as traditional Japanese dancers, singers, and geisha).
